Speaker Ryan on budget sequester origin, debt crisis by entitlements

House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin reminded reporters at a press conference with hours left on the second 2018 shutdown threat why budget sequestration was in place, because President Obama called for a super committee to get entitlement reform, but that did not work so the mechanism kicked in, a very crude tool that put cuts where they did not belong on the military, that the true driver of a debt crisis, was really healthcare inflation and entitlements driven by a demographic challenge of baby boomers retiring and fewer people following them, that cutting the military did not solve the problem and by getting rid of the military there would still be a deficit.
