View on the modern centre of Nur Sultan (Astana), Kazakhstan - stock photo
Modern Nur-Sultan is really a planned city, much like other planned capitals. After it became the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997, the city changed its shape enormously. The Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa designed the master plan of the new capital. In March 2019 the name of the city was changed to Nur Sultan in honour of the first president of the new republic, of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Here the well known landmart, the Bayterek tower is in the image as well.
