MESENCHYME---UNDIFFERENTIATED CONNECIVE TISSUE, also called EMBRYONIC CONNECTIVE TISSUE, 400X. Mesenchyme is undifferentiated connective tissue that is closely associated with the development of the embryo--it is located in the true mesoderm of the embryo. All connective tissues are derived from mesenchyme--this includes: blood cells, blood vessels, the heart and lymphatic system. Besides cells, mesenchyme is composed of gelatinous ground substance matrix (the clear spaces in the image). Mesenchyme cells can readily migrate unlike epithelial cells.
