Foreign entrants join in on muddy tests of skills held at Ariake Sea tidal flat
Video footage taken on June 2 at Kashima, Saga Prefecture, shows participants in the 35th annual Kashima Gatalympic competition paddling on boards and falling off bicycles as they test their skills in various muddy races held in the mud of the local Ariake Sea tidelands. The Kashima Gatalympic competition featured eight events, including riding a bicycle on a narrow bridge of planks above the mud and the “human mudskipper”?a mud sled race. The event drew an estimated 20,000 spectators and featured about 100 people from South Korea and Australia and 10 other countries among the about 1,500 competitors.
