Osaka’s distinctive ‘running man’ signboard no longer neon but now animated

Video footage taken in Osaka shows the huge, illuminated signboards that have become emblematic of the city’s Dotonbori entertainment district. Shown is the Ezaki Glico Co. advertisement featuring a runner, first hung on the spot in 1935 and currently in its sixth generation. Made of neon tubes until the fifth generation, the sign was redone in 2014 in LED lights shows animated backgrounds featuring landmarks from around the world, including the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben.
