Turkish NGO opens orphan village in southern Turkey

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - MAY 10: Turkish IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation will open its orphan village "Children's Life Centre", in Reyhanli district of southern Hatay province on May 19, the aid agency said on May 10, 2017. The "Children's Life Centre" which has the capacity to host 990 orphans, was built like a village on 100 acre land with the cooperation of IHH, Qatar’s Sheikh Thani Ibn Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Turkey's Ministry of Family and Social Policy. Murat Yilmaz, head of the IHH Orphan Department said that the project aims to support all kinds of needs of the orphans such as health, rehabilitation, food, clothing and psychological support in a home environment. Yilmaz said that in the first period 250 children will stay in the centre and that the orphanage will reach its capacity within one year. "This war has hit the orphan children the most. The psychological damages they faced are enormous which showed us the need to build this children's life centre," he said. "It is the world's biggest living center for children who are orphaned because of the war. The children lost their fathers in the war, which is why they need to get therapy at the centre," he added.
