Witnesses and prosecutor give accounts of the 1935 killing of Sophie Crempa by deputies over a public utility dispute in Scotch Plains, NJ

As I was holding her I saw my father run towards us and shout towards the deputies don't shoot I'll surrender. As he did so a volley of bullets came toward him and shot him down also. Mother was dying in my arms." / SOT Stephen Milosy, neighbor of the Crempas, says "I read in the newspapers several stories about the Crempa family come out with their guns and fire at the deputies. It is untrue! When the three of them was coming out they didn't have no gun. The only time I see the gun is when the little girl run back for a gun and shot or fired into ground, (a couple of unintelligible words) father and mother was shot down" / SOT prosecutor Abe David, sitting at desk, says "In the Crempa case we are endeavoring to make a full investigation of the facts leading to during and following the killing of Mrs. Crempa. We've taken the statements of the seven deputies and every eye witness that has come to our attention. There is a mass of conflicting statements as to who fired the first shots and whether the Crempas were fully armed." / Note: exact day not known
