Pelosi to Reporters on Zika Virus, Flint Water Crisis

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California tells reporters at a weekly briefing that she hopes emergency supplemental funding requests to deal with Zika virus and for Flint, Michigan, move quickly. Pelosi comments on a caucus hearing she calls one of the most compelling hearings in her long service in Congress to listen to the Mayor of Flint and others about what she calls a breakdown in the contact between the American people and the public policy that is supposed to affect them. She says there is a reluctance to make adequate investments early on for infrastructure, some water systems still made of wood and brick. Some of them are made of battles that are corrosive and harmful to children and other living things, reiterates that we do everything we can to do the best job for our kids, that you cannot ensure the quality of the air they breathe or the water they drink or the safety of food that comes available to them unless you have a public role, saying Republicans call it the government, her party calls it American values.
