02/06/1998 - SLUG: PW/ROBIN HOOD 2/6/98 - WOODBRIDGE SR. HIGH BY: MARGARET THOMAS/TWP. STAND-ALONE ART: BACK STAGE AT THE PIED PIPER THEATER - The Prince Wiliam Center for the Arts and the The Pied Piper Theater presented a musical version of the classic Robin Hood story before an appreciative audience of 300 at the Woodbridge HS auditorium last Saturday night, with a Sunday matinee at 3:30 pm. The Pied Piper Theater, which eemerged from classes for children at the Center for the Arts, has been offering acting opportunities for aspiring thespians between the ages of 8 and 18 since 1990, and is partially funded by the Virgina Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Phillip Graham Fund, and the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyers Foundation. Predictably, the atmosphere backstage was charged with opening night jitters, but lots of energy was released during pre-show warm-ups. Before donning costumes, make-up was applied to young faces by the the volunteer support staff, and the curtain rose on time at 7:30 pm. Robin Hood (Nathan Van Arsdale) crosses swords with the Sheriff of Nottingham ( Drew Agan) during confrontational scene within the play.
