Oil Drilling Rig in Desert of Libya
(Original Caption) 5/13/1968-Libya: A lone structure makes a startling picture in the barren deserts of Libya. It's an oil drilling rig owned by the Marathon Oil Company. The firm and it's associates first discovered "black gold" in this African nation in 1958, as part of it's worldwide search from new areas of production. Oil from Libyan fields is carried by pipeline to terminal facilities in the Mediterranean for export by tanker to markets in Europe and the United States.
