Hatshepsut, Ancient Egyptian queen of the 18th dynasty, 15th century BC (1926). Hatshepsut (c1504-1457 BC) was the daughter of Thutmose I and wife of Thutmose II. The 5th Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, she ruled Egypt from 1479 BC and was the first woman to assume the title of Pharaoh, apparently adopting a false beard. Her reign saw a growth in Egypt's trade and prosperity. A print from Kings and Queens of Ancient Egypt, portraits by Winifred Brunton, Hodder and Stoughton, London, 1926.
