Diane Blood arrives at the High Court in London this morning (Thur) where she lost her legal battle for the right to have her dead husband's child by artificial insemination. A senior judge spoke of the "universal sympathy" for the tragic circumstances of Diane Blood, who wept in court, comforted by her mother and father. But he ruled the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority had acted lawfully within its discretion when it banned the 30-year-old Midlands businesswoman from being artificially inseminated with her husband's sperm because he did not give written consent before his death.
