Betty Mahmoody displays a photo of her daughter, Mahtoub. In 1984, Betty, an American housewife, traveled to Iran with her husband and daughter to visit her Iranian husband's family. Her husband then refused to allow her and her daughter to return home to the United States, holding them prisoner until they escaped two years later.
