White Mothers Screaming at African American Children
At McDough Elementary in New Orleans, Louisiana, mothers of white students scream as three six-year-old girls enter the school on their fifth day of classes. The New Orleans public school system was ordered shut down all next week for teachers' meetings after the attendance fell off by 1/3 following integration. Outbreaks of violence continued in the city with a reported score of arrests made, attributable to the school integration. November 18, 1960
