Franz Christoph Frankopan was a politician, writer and poet from the Croatian noble family Frankopan. Frankopan was Margrave of Istria and Count of Tätze (Terszacz), a castle in what was then Croatia in the state association with Hungary (now part of Cazin, Bosnia and Herzegovina). He was executed by beheading for his involvement in the magnate conspiracy (in Croatia: Zrinski-Frankopan conspiracy). Frankopan, together with Petar Zrinski, is a national hero in Croatia, but also for some Hungarians, because they fought against the Ottomans on the one hand and against the rule of the Habsburg monarchy on the other.
