CB Fry Breaking The World Record

A rare vintage photograph of CB Fry competing for Oxford University in the 'broad jump' event during the Inter-Varsity athletics meeting between Oxford and Cambridge at Queen's Club in London, 8th Aprill 1892. The exceptionally early action study, by Stearn of Cambridge, shows CB Fry breaking the world record under the watchful eye of the event officials and a large crowd of spectators. The distance of 23 feet 5 inches remained a record for the next 21 years. An engraving based on this action study was published in the Illustrated London News shortly after the event.
