VADDEM, INDIA-JANAURY 7, 2013: On January 21, 2013, the Indian patrol ship INS Saryu was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM VM VSM Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command. At 105 meters long, the Saryu Class (NOPV) naval offshore patrol vessel is the largest offshore patrol vessel in the Indian Navy. The INS Saryu is intended to conduct, “surface warfare missions to prevent infiltration and violation of maritime sovereignty” in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as provide security for nearby oil facilities.
