Bundestag Launches Euro Hawk Hearings
BERLIN, GERMANY - JULY 22: Former German Defense Minister Rudolf Scharping speaks to the press after attending a panel of the first parliamentary inquiry witness hearing into the failed Euro Hawk drone project on July 22, 2013 in Berlin, Germany. The German government cancelled the military project, which has already consumed EUR 562 million (USD 739 million) due to complications with domestic flight certification. The parliament is expected to interview military and government officials as well as senior executives from Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V. (EADS), producers of the drones, on the matter before reporting its results in September. The affair has put pressure on German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere prior to elections the same month.
