(Original Caption) Ethiopian 1960 Olympic champion Bikilla Abebe, running barefooted, dashes past the tomb of the Marathon Warriors, May 7th, on his way to victory in the fourth International Marathon race. Abebe held the lead from the beginning to win the race in two hours, 23 minutes, and 44.6 seconds. Athletes from nine other nations competed in the race over the historic course first run in 490 B.C. by Phidippides.
