Police presence in Woodland Terrace after spate of killings

WASHINGTON, DC -AUG3: Children ride their scooters (relatives didn't want names used) in Woodland Terrace, a public housing complex in Southeast Washington, where police have increased their presence, August 3, 2015, after a spate of killings in the neighborhood. The neighborhood has had some very rough days, four dead from gunfire this year alone, two in four days, prompting D.C. police to send an occupying force of officers to this blighted neighborhood embroiled in what police and residents describe as a civil war. The shootings in Woodland Terrace and in other pockets around Washington has both fueled a surge in killings in the District- up more than 20 percent from this time last year - and frustrated leaders who say they are seeing similar increases in other cities around the country.(Photo by Evelyn Hockstein/For The Washington Post via Getty Images)
