Afzal Guru was hanged on February 9 for his alleged role in the 2001 Indian parliament attack which left 14 dead. Clashes between Kashmiri youth and Indian police were also reported in several parts of the disputed Himalayan region, which was put under a strict curfew for a week by Indian authorities worried about massive public protests following Guru's hanging last Saturday.
